The Church – Priest=Aura
“Evocative, poetic, and gripping music with a distinctly unsettling edge…an astonishing album.” – All Music
In the 30 years since its release, the Church’s Priest=Aura has gone from a post-“Under the Milky Way” footnote to an acknowledged career pinnacle. It was a commercial failure upon its release in 1992. Not only was the band unable to tour the album, but it’s layered, atmospheric sound proved to be at great odds with the seismic shift in music caused by Nirvana‘s Nevermind, which was was less than six months old.
“Half postmodern and half premodern, the LP inhabits its own singular world…a dreamy, atmospheric third space between indie and progressive psychedelia. The interplay between guitarists Peter Koppes and Marty Willson-Piper, always enigmatic, turns into pure alchemy… the album casts a mesmerizing, unbroken spell.” – Pop Matters
