Originally released in 1988, its potent mix of raw song craft and fiery politics, combined with its bold compassion and melodies, made it an instant standout release in the bicentennial year.

Limited Edition 300 pressed on black/red/yellow tri-colour vinyl.

Rolling Stone journalist Bruce Elder hailed it as “the best album ever released by an Aboriginal musician and arguably the best protest album ever made in Australia”. Kev Carmody started his career in music late (he was born in 1946), but he made an immediate impact. He released a series of critically acclaimed albums, co-wrote/performed the hit, “From Little Things Big Things Grow”, with Paul Kelly and was inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 2009.

Pillars Of Society remains not only an historically important Australian release, it also remains an excellent slice of Australian music. Songs such as “Thou Shalt Not Steal”, “Black Deaths In Custody” and the incredible spoken-word monologue, “Comrade Jesus Christ” retain all their power 30 years later A special 2025 repress of this absolutely CLASSIC debut album from 1988 by one of this land’s finest singer/songwriters.
