Following his release from prison, thief Corey (Alain Delon) teams up with alcoholic ex-cop Jansen (Yves Montand) and escaped criminal Vogel (Gian Maria Volonte) to plot a daring heist of an upmarket Parisian jewellery store against impossible odds. However, Inspector Mattei (Bourvil) is determined to stop them.
