Idle Moments (Blue Vinyl)
Limited Blue Note 85th anniversary blue vinyl edtion.
Time and troubles seem to melt away during the mesmerizing 15 minutes of "Idle Moments," the opening track from Grant Green's sublime 1963 album of the same name.
As the piece unfolds unhurriedly, showcasing the ensemble's unique colors, Green's soulful guitar joins Duke Pearson's elegant piano, Bobby Hutcherson's crystalline vibraphone, Bob Cranshaw's reassuring double bass, Al Harewood's subtle drumming, and Joe Henderson's magnificent tenor saxophone.
The pace quickens for the rest of the set, including Green's own composition, "Jean de Fleur," as well as a bluesy rendition of John Lewis's MJQ standard "Django" and Pearson's original "Nomad."
