Buena Vista Social Club (30th Anniversary Vinyl)
Recorded in just seven days in 1996 inside Havana's vintage EGREM studios, Buena Vista Social Club turns 30 with this pearl sunrise vinyl pressing, featuring the remastered audio and bonus tracks first released for the album's 25th anniversary in 2021.
Masterminded by Cuban bandleader Juan de Marcos González, American producer and guitarist Ry Cooder, and British producer Nick Gold, the record became a genuine phenomenon nobody predicted, winning a Grammy in 1997 and selling over 8 million copies worldwide. It elevated its veteran performers, including Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, Eliades Ochoa, Compay Segundo, and Omara Portuondo, to global superstar status, inspiring an acclaimed Wim Wenders film and a Tony winning Broadway musical along the way.
Buena Vista Social Club refers to both this extraordinary group of Cuban musicians and the album they created together. Their sound draws on son, bolero, and traditional Cuban dance forms, played with the warmth and verve of performers who spent lifetimes mastering their craft, timeless music that helped popularise Cuba's rich musical heritage worldwide.
