The second album from the indie-folk supergroup led by Anaïs Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson (Fruit Bats) and Josh Kaufman (The War on Drugs, The National, Taylor Swift). Produced by band member Josh Kaufman, "Rolling Golden Holy" is the follow-up to their critically acclaimed self-titled debut, which received two GRAMMY nominations (Best Folk Album and Best American Roots Performance) and was named one of the "Best Albums of 2020" by Paste, Mojo, Uncut Magazine, among others

If Bonny Light Horseman's debut ever felt like the work of a short-lived supergroup or a one-off diversion (which it never was), "Rolling Golden Holy" disproves that notion with otherworldly beauty, charm and imagination. These 11 songs - all originals, written and realized by the trio as a whole - follow the paths of the traditional melodies the band cherishes to new musical and lyrical frontiers, giving the sounds and situations of history the weight and shape of the present. "Rolling Golden Holy" confirms that Bonny Light Horseman is not a project, but a band currently working at the spearhead of modern American folk

The first writing sessions of "Rolling Golden Holy" - and the two recording sessions that followed, first at Aaron Dessner's (The National) Long Pond studio and then at what they call their "spiritual home," the beautiful and bushy old church called Dreamland - were a series of "yes, and" meetings in which each member encouraged the others to take an idea and pursue it a little further, to push past comfort zones. On "Rolling Golden Holy," the trio asks one essential question - and answers it with each track: where does traditional folk music end and modern folk music begin, if such a delineation even exists? These songs constantly suggest and embody an unspoken continuum. Here Bonny Light Horseman show themselves in the full glory of their lives as a complete band.
