The Meters’ 1969 self-titled debut album is an essential of slice of New Orleans funk. Organist Art Neville led the quartet which consisted of guitarist Leo Nocentelli, and the rhythm section of bassist George Porter and drummer Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeliste. The Meters are considered the true originators of funk alongside artists like James Brown. They have been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame four times, the last time in 2017.
