Discover : Free Dirt – Died Pretty.Released in 1986, Died Pretty's magnificent debut album, Free Dirt, remains one of the great Australian rock albums. Combining Stooges-like grunt with the avant-rock stylings of Pere Ubu and the Velvet Underground, the band forged a dark and brooding sound, oscillating effortlessly between the delicate and meandering to the frantic and howling.Produced by Radio Birdman/New Christs' Rob Younger and originally released by the Citadel label, this new vinyl edition is fully-authorised by both band and label. Remastered for vinyl by Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring) and limited to 500 units only. Also, in stock Do The Understanding; the new LP from Ron S. Peno & The Superstitions. In Praise Of : Siri Hustvedt."Hustvedt has the imaginative mastery to encase complex ideas in the flesh and blood needed to render them visceral”. – Observer. There are few writers working today who can reconcile an inner life with an outward one as completely as Siri Hustvedt. An American writer, and specifically a New York writer, dense and knotted as a tapestry. She writes with a passion about passionate things. In her investigations of the inner life, of desire, of who we think we are, she raises the infernal question: as a woman, how is it possible to live well in the world and live our special kind of life. One answer: when women are fully in control of their own stories and male entitlement is consigned to the dustbin of history.Heat and dust: it’s hauntingly passionate and it stays with you long after her kind of dust has settled. All over you.Photo by Knut Egil Wang /MOMENT@thestreetsofbarangaroo @surryhills.sydney @sirihustvedt Checkout Siri at TITLEtitlemusicfilmbooks.com/2022/06/17/read-siri-hustvedt

Criterion pickThe delightfully odd Grey Gardens (1975) dir. David Maysles, Albert Maysles, Ellen Hovde, and Muffie Meyer. The film follows the day to day lives of distant relatives of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis; an eccentric mother and daughter duo both named, Edith Beale. They live in a 14 bedroom mansion with 8 cats, a questionable amount of raccoons, and all the memorabilia from their lives. It’s a masterclass on voyeurism!

An essential ‘angry young man’ record, All Mod Cons remains one of the prime statements of disillusioned youth from the punk generation. Dispersing the personal with the political, guitarist and songwriter, Paul Weller’s lyrics reaches new depths on songs like “In The Crowd” exploring the loss of ones’ individuality due the pressures of society and “Down In The Tube Station At Midnight” snapshotting the paranoia and the violence of the London Underground. Soundtracked by the familiar power trio’s sound of buzzsaw guitars interwoven between the pulsating rhythm section, the Jam takes their sound further with guitar harmonies, psychedelic flourishes and acoustic numbers. Like all classic rock records, there’s nothing to do but turn it up and let all the noise knock you out. Have your ear to the ground though and All Mod Cons will catch you all on the fall with its deeply relatable working class narratives . For all of it’s Punk Rock immediacy, it is a record that rewards every listen.Available in store and online through our new website, link in our bio
